Frequently asked questions
-
Who is behind SHUP?SHUP has been set up by me - Sharon Hill. My wholesome farm upbringing in Taranaki was followed by 20 years living in the soul-nourishing creativity of Wellington. Now based in sunny Marlborough, I’m lucky to be immersed in a rich community of local potters surrounded by a stunning landscape and light that provides endless inspiration.

Why handmade?I tried the wheel and the preciseness of the process and the outcome just didn’t suit me. With handmaking, the pieces just form and evolve seemingly on their own, and are heart-warmingly wonky (or perfectly imperfect). And that's what I love about it. When I say something is unique, I mean it’s truly unique. I don’t think I’ve ever made two of anything that are identical or even close. That’s why I have series, not sets. Each piece is a variation on a theme - same clay, same glaze, different form.
-
Dishwasher or handwash? They are perfectly safe to pop in the dishwasher. However, their life might extend if you tend to handwash.
-
Can I serve food on SHUP?SHUP glazes are all foodsafe, so it's fine to serve hot beverages in and food on, and to use in the microwave. Don't put in the oven on full heat though.
-
Microwave & ovenproof?Yes SHUP is fine to microwave but no we wouldn’t recommend putting them in the oven on full heat. Fine on a low-mid heat or in the warmer drawer though.
-
Where can I buy SHUP?You can buy direct from this website - using online banking or cash on pick up in Springlands, Blenheim. I'm also at a number of markets in the top of the South - keep an eye on my Insta feed for where and when, and to see what products I’ve got in stock. I also sell through the Millennium Art Gallery and Cerise Giftstore in Blenheim.
-
Do you ship?I deliver for free in Blenheim township, and you're welcome to pop into my studio for free pick up. Otherwise I can ship to other parts of New Zealand for an additional shipping fee.
